  1. CDC Journal Evaluation Project • Overview • Journal “weighted value” scores • Spreadsheet: UC Journal Title Values • Voting instructions • Questions, discussion, etc.

  2. CDC Journal Evaluation Project: Overview • Response to big fiscal challenges • Use value-based strategy in journal package negotiations • “Holistic” approach: combine all journals • About 8,000 journals in 36 packages • Journals grouped by specific subject area • Analyze journal value using objective metrics • Include qualitative input from librarian subject specialists • Many A&H journals are missing quantitative data, so it’s especially important to do qualitative evaluation

  3. Value-Weighted Algorithm • Different metrics combined to yield overall ranking • High, Medium, Low, Lowest • Includes UC-specific metrics • Indicates value of each journal to UC • Rankings are subject specific

  4. Value-Weighted Algorithm

  5. Value-Weighted Algorithm

  6. OVERALL WEIGHTED VALUE SCORES A Value Score is assigned to each journal: Highest score: 7 Lowest score: 0 Explanations: • If a title’s value is above the median for all journals in its subject category, it will be assigned a positive score • If no data is available for a title, a zero score will be assigned • What is the highest possible score for journals with no Impact Factor and no SNIP? • Subjects where 70% or more journals have no IF and no SNIP are “normalized”
