  3. Today’s Goal Identify program models and qualities for all phases of disaster which will ultimately inform a technical assistance document

  4. Preparedness Programming Qualities • Focused on individual/family/community disaster planning • Increases resilience to reduce needs during response/recovery • Increases access to services, materials/supplies, transportation, and other support

  5. Known Current Preparedness Programming • Salvation Army Safe Seniors Disaster Preparedness – Alaska • American Red Cross – Prepare Wyoming – Wyoming* • American Red Cross Together We Prepare – Multiple* • Emergency Management, Public Education Coordinator – Washington*

  6. Mitigation Programming Qualities • Eliminates or reduces impacts and risks of hazards through proactive measures taken before an emergency or disaster occurs

  7. Known Current Mitigation Programming • SCMF AmeriCorps – San Bernardino – California* • Washington Conservation Corps – Washington* • Most Conservations Corps - Multiple

  8. Response Programming Qualities • Focuses on providing coordination and direct services to disaster surivivors and affected communities • Often have preparedness or other ‘blue sky’ duties

  10. Recovery Programming Qualities • Focuses on providing information, services and resources to assist survivors/communities ‘return to a new normal’ • Increases resilience for next event
