  1. NARRATIVE(To entertain or amuse the readers/listeners) TITLE: THE RATS AND THE ELEPHANTS

  2. ORIENTATION • Set the scene ( time, place, and setting ). • Introduces the participants or characters. Once upon a time, there lived a group of mice under a tree in peace.

  3. COMPLICATION (An event or series of events that unfold and lead to a complication/problem/conflict up to the climax) • However, a group of elephants crossing the jungle unknowingly destroyed the homes of all the rats. Many of them were even crushed to death. • Then, the king of the rats decided to approach the elephant chief and request him to guide his herd through another route. On hearing the sad story, the elephant chief apologized and agreed to take another route. And so the lives of the rats were saved.

  4. One day, elephant hunters came to the jungle and trapped a group of elephants in huge nets. Then, the elephant king remembered the king of the rats. He summoned one of the elephants in his herd, which had not been trapped, to go seek help from the king of the rats. • The elephant went to the rat king and told him about the trapped elephants.

  5. RESOLUTION (The crisis is resolved for better or for worse) The rat king immediately took his entire group of the rats and they cut open the nets which had trapped the elephants herd. The elephants herd was totally set free. They danced with joy and thanked the rats.

Complication: Serangkaian kejadian yang menimbulkan masalah/konflik bagi tokoh utama, hingga mencapai klimak. c. Resolution: Pemecahan masalah, bisa berupa happy ending atau unhappy ending.

  7. Ciri kebahasaan dari teks naratif: a. Banyak menggunakan SIMPLE PAST TENSE. b. Tokoh/pelaku dalam cerita biasanya spesifik ( tertentu ). • Tujuan Komunikatif teks naratif: Untuk menghibur pendengar / pembaca. • Biasanya berupa cerita fiktif
