Darwin’s Tea Party Sexual Selection
Sexual selection is (usually) female choice of male mating partners.
The female selects the male which may often appear to have non-adaptive features.
This is why (unlike most human societies) it is often the male of the species that has wonderful colourings, special “tools,” weapons or other features.
The more exaggerated the feature, the more chance the male will be successful in getting selected by the female.
Males sometimes compete physically for the chance to mate, using their “weapons”
The Bower bird Sexual selection is also about the selection of behaviourial features, not just physical features.
