  4. Major Players: Allies • United States—Roosevelt, Truman • Great Britain—Churchill • Soviet Union—Stalin

  5. U.S. Avoids Involvement • Isolationism: Americans opposed to getting involved in world affairs. • Pearl Harbor: Japanese attack and U.S. forced into war.

  6. Mobilization • U.S. must prepare for war: weapons, ships, draft/recruit soldiers

  7. U.S. Involvement • Unconditional Surrender: Full defeat of Germans and Japanese • Military Involvement: Defeat Germany first; also fighting Japanese • Atomic Bombing: Used to end war in Pacific
