The Communication and Assistive Technology Road: From Evaluation to Devices
Evaluation Process • Pupil Appraisal team opens evaluation • Teacher fills out AT checklist • If additional AT screening is required, form is sent to AT evaluator • AT collaborates with Pupil Appraisal team and /or related service provider • AT evaluator observes student and interviews the classroom teacher • Qualification is determined and AT report submitted to Pupil Appraisal.
What happens if the student does not qualify for AT? The AT evaluator makes recommendations of various modifications that could be used to help the student achieve.
What if the student does qualify for Assistive Technology? Once a student qualifies for Assistive Technology as a related service, the AT facilitator collaborates with the teacher, student, and parents on a plan. Many times, a device is implemented.
