  1. The mechanical reaper is a horse drawn machine. The machine is used to harvest crops and other small plants. It is used for agriculture. It is designed to cut wheat faster and efficiently.

  2. Date invented: 1831. • Date of patent issued: June/ 21/ 1834

  3. Cyrus Hall McCormick invented the Mechanical Reaper. His dad actually started making a reaper but never perfected it. His dad eventually abandoned the project. Then Cyrus picked up where his dad was at and added several key features. Cyrus further refined his reaper, and finally took out a patent. He also invented a lightweight cradle for carrying harvest grains, at the age of fifteen.

  4. The mechanical reaper was used for harvesting more crops. Two men could cut twelve acres of grain per day with it compared to four acres a day with a cradle scythe, invented in 1794. This invention has improved during time. The Patent Reaping Machine is the improved version of the mechanical reaper. The mechanical reaper lead to other inventions such as McCormick's Patent Reaping and Mowing Machine, The Automatic Self-Rake Reaper, McCormick Combination Reaper and Mower, The Marsh Type Harvester, McCormick Harvester and Binder, McCormick-Deering Tractor Binder, McCormick-Deering Harvester-Thresher and The Windrow-Harvester.
