  2. Joji Sakurai (1858-1939) • Born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. • Sixth son of Samurai family. • Entered Teikoku University at the age of 15. • Studied at London University. • Died in 1939

  3. Joji Sakurai • Synthesis of the Organochlorine compound and Methylene Mercury Iodine. • “Sakurai” method of boiling point measurement. • Helped establish RIKEN.

JokichiTakamine (1854-1922) • November, 1900Assistant discovers the purest crystal form of a substance; Adrenalin/Epinephrine, later patented by Takamine. • Founded three major companies - Sankyo Pharmaceutical Company of Tokyo - The International Takamine Ferment Company of New York - The Takamine Laboratory of Clifton, New Jersey.
