  2. Veterinarian Technician(Vet Techs) A health care worker who is skilled in veterinary medicine and works as a professional assistant to a veterinarian.

  3. What do Vet Tech’s Do?? • Collect and record patients’ case histories • Give medication, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by the veterinarian • Prepare animals and instruments for surgery • Take and develop x-rays • Perform laboratory tests and collecting the samples, such as blood, urine, or tissue for testing • An assistant to the veterinarian (ex. nurse and a doctor)

  4. Work environment: • Techs work in private clinics, laboratories, and animal hospitals • Animals can be noisy, uncooperative, and dangerous • Must deal with disturbing sights and unpleasant odors • Euthanizing an ill, injured, aged, or unwanted animal can be emotionally stressful

  5. Degree and training: • You have to be compassionate, highly motivated and dedicated to animal health care • Must take the Veterinary Technician National Examination and pass to get your license • Have at least an Associate's Degree • Be educated in the care and handling of animals, the basic principles of normal and abnormal life processes, and in routine laboratory and clinical procedures

  8. Biochemist Scientists who study the chemistry of living things.

  9. What do Biochemist’s do?? • Study the chemical makeup of living things including genes, proteins and molecules • Study chemical processes like digestion and growth • Study the effects of diseases or vaccines • Develop and test new products like medicine or ingredients • Write and supervise writing reports • Manage laboratory team • Work out budget and product cost and prepare grant applications

  10. Work environment: • Work indoors in either offices or laboratories, even for a government agencyor private company • Works with dangerous organisms, toxic substances, and diseases • Follow strict safety procedures to avoid contamination

  11. Degree and training: • Have a Bachelor of Science or Biomedical Chemistry • Master’s or PhD • Experience with writing reports and using laboratory equipment • Able to work with medicines or chemicals • Work both individually and with a team • Have a love for chemistry

Differences?? • Job pay is a big difference • Vet Tech works with animals, while Biochemists work with body tissues, fluids, and vaccines/diseases • Vet Techs gives you health and dental insurance, while biochemist’s give you health insurance • Vet Techs have to be registered or licensed, while biochemist need a master’s or PhD

  17. I prefer to be a……Vet Tech  WHY? Because I have loved animals since I was little and knowing I am doing something to help the quality of there lives. Seeing those sad commercials on TV makes me want to help them and give them another chance at life that they deserve
