First Nations/Métis Advisory Council • We have representatives from 12 of 15 first Nations as well as three Metis locals • Two First Nations chose to be observers and six have nominated members to sit on the council • Tremendous legwork required • First Nation visits • Complex structure • Many stakeholders – different backgrounds
First Nations/Metis Advisory Council • PVSD will continue to invite all potential partners to participate in the work of the advisory council and be respectful of their choice whether or not to participate • The continuation or potential termination of the Advisory Council is contingent upon the impact of the work of the Advisory Council has on policies and practices in PVSD.

First Nations/Metis Advisory Council • Work plan: PVSD prepared a work plan on behalf of this group and with their permission • Our plan is for this school year and is quite ambitious • Next years (2009-2010) plan will be developed together.

First Nations/Metis Advisory Council • Tied to ATFSL The Advisory Council will be reviewing an Elders/Cultural advisor handbook recently created by PVSD Handbook not a new idea but is vital to create understanding and establishing and maintaining local contacts – increases relationships
Observations of a FN/MAC member • Council is a good thing and has proven itself necessary • Advised to proceed cautiously • Committed to making things better • Like what PVSD has introduced • Strongly endorsed by Chief Michael Starr
