Outline of Plan • Ingl 3202, ultimate course in basic track • 250 students (of 545) • Pre-test • Intervention • Post-test
Pre-Test • In-class writing • Students began learning in pre-requisite course • Difficulty of creating thesis statement increases
Interventions • Teach definition • Locate in readings • Discuss parameters • Write their own in series of drafts
Post-Test • Final formal paper of semester • Research papers, complex analysis of topics in literature
Results • 42% success at pre-test • Intervention is successful • 76% at midpoint • Post test is pending
