  4. Parents and Family Information Session • Today we will be talking about: • Changes and transitions • Fees, Awards and Financial Aid • Adding & Dropping Courses • Study/Life Balance • Ways to provide support at home and on campus • Academic Calendar • Time for questions

  6. Changes and Transitions • When someone in your house starts university, it impacts everyone! • Routines will change • Independence: A New Reality

  7. The Parent of a University Student • Support your son/daughter or family member but understand that they are in charge of their education • Listen as they work through their choices but do not make decisions for them

  8. Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) • The student’s personal information (grades, financial account, attendance etc.) is only available to the student. • UW staff can not share details of the student’s record with you or others.

  9. Fees, Awards and Financial Aid

A Word About Fees • Tuition Fee statements can be found on WebAdvisor under Financial Information in “My Account” • Fall and Fall/Winter fees are due before school starts in September • Winter fees are due before school starts in January • Pay in advance to avoid long line-ups on the first day of Fall term!

Pay your tuition through your Financial Institution: It is as Easy as 1 – 2 – 3 ADD The University of Winnipeg as a Bill Payment/Bill Payee When prompted for an Account Number use their SEVEN digit Student Number Indicate the amount you are paying http://www.sactocu.org/account-services/online-banking

Awards and Financial Aid • Student Loans and other sources of financial aid are available to students • Scholarship and Bursary opportunities begin now and will continue through your student’s academic career • Go to the UW Awards and Financial Aid website for Application forms and more information

  13. A Word About Funding • Forms for accessing funds from RESP’s and other Confirmations of Enrolment are ordered at Student Central

  15. Adding Courses • Add/Drop Period: first two weeks of term • Add additional classes • Change sections • Register off of waitlist • Drop extra classes • Fall: September 4 – 17, 2013 • Fall/Winter: September 4 – 17, 2013 • Winter: January 6 – 17, 2013
