Kick-off meeting: May 4-6, Lausanne • 1st day (May 4): Get to know each other! • 2nd day (May 5): Build on existing foundations! – SERSCIDA and CESSDA • 3rd day (May 6): Roll up our sleeves! – Project planning and administrative issues
SEEDS: What we are aiming at? • New data services – why? • Research data can be reused and shared for secondary analyses (replication and address new research questions) • Publicly-funded data should be made available to the research community (Open data movement) • Preservation and curation of research data for years to come Initiatives on European level (EC): SERSCIDA, H2020-INFRADEV, etc.
SEEDS: What we are aiming at? • Build on past experience – SERSCIDA • Same aim: establish new data services (preparatory work) • Same instruments and methodology: assess existing funding, research, legal and infrastructural landscape in each new partner country • Same documents: develop and publish policies, procedures and guidelines • Similar technical systems: New websites and technical prototype systems • Build up knowledge capacity: training units and events (Workshops) Outputs from SERSCIDA can be adopted, adapted and improved on!
SEEDS: What we are aiming at? • Objectives • Establish new data services in new partner countries • Continue integration of data services in old partner countries • Develop knowledge and tools related to data services • Long-term benefits for national research communities • Bring partner institutions into fold of an international movement (CESSDA)

SEEDS: What is laying ahead of us? 3 Workshops: • Workshop I: concepts and principles of archiving (OAIS model); how to run a data archive; data management, metadata creation; confidentiality and anonymisation of data; contractual system. • Workshop II: data solicitation and curation; process, clean, and document real datasets; tools of the trade; best practices and standards regarding data preparation and documentation (DDI). • Workshop III: standards and best practice in digital preservation; Data Seal of Approval (DSA); data security and backup.
