  3. Pg. 55 7. What name does Tybalt call Romeo? • He calls Romeo a villain. 8. What does Capulet say about Romeo? • He tells Tybalt to leave Romeo alone. He says that all of Verona feels that Romeo is a well behaved young man: “Content thee gentle coz. Let him alone. He bears him like a portly gentleman, /And to say truth, Verona brags of him/ To be a virtuous and well-governed youth. I would not for the wealth of all this town /Here in my house do him disparagement.”

  4. Pg. 55-7 9. What is Tybalt’s reactions to his uncle’s request? • He does not want to honor his uncle’s request. He says, “I’ll not endure him, and Why, uncle ‘tis a shame.” 10. 5. Pg. 57 Romeo: If I profane with my unworthiesthand/ This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:/ My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand/ To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss. Juliet: Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, Which mannerly devotion shows in this; /For saints have hands that pilgrims’ hands do touch /And palm to palm is hold palmers’ kiss.

  6. Pg. 59 Romeo: Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too? Juliet: Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayers. Romeo: O then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do. They pray: grant thou, lest faith turn to despair. Juliet: Saints do not move, though grant for prayers’ sake. Romeo: Then move not while my prayer’s effect I take.

  7. The love that Romeo and Juliet share is sprinkled with religious imagery as well as light imagery. The words that Romeo and Juliet speak to one another upon first meeting are filled with religious meanings and undertones. The first 14 lines of their conversation is a sonnet consisting of references to worship. Juliet is the saint, and Romeo is the pilgrim. The devotion that Romeo and Juliet show for one another is pure and holy, unlike the infatuation that he had felt so recently for Rosaline.

  9. Pg. 61 14. What does Juliet send the Nurse to do? • She sends the Nurse to find out Romeo’s name. Juliet says, “If he be married, / My grave is like to be my wedding bed.” 15. What is Juliet’s reaction to the news that Romeo is a Montague? • She says, “My love sprung from my only hate!/ Too early seen unknown and known too late./ Prodigious birth of love it is to me/ That I must love a loathed enemy.”
