FALL AGENDAReview • MPS Learning Targets • Wisconsin Model Academic Content Standards in Science • L&S science courses most frequently taken by Pre-Ed majors
FALL AGENDAResults • Learning Targets and State Standards are in alignment • L&S intro science courses are mostly aligned with state content standards (185 series in particular) • Presently recommended advanced level L&S science courses not always appropriate for minors or MACSTEP program
SPRING AGENDA • Modify course selection sheets to better reflect actual courses offered in L&S ( K-8 and MACSTEP) • Add offerings and modify offerings ( Bio 185 and Physics 185) • Seek advice from local K-12 teachers about • needs for Masters in Science Education. • needs for infusion of additional science content for K-12 teachers
SPRING AGENDAOutcomes • Focus group results • All teaching levels have needs for content and teaching strategies. • Short courses; evenings and/or Saturdays • Some interest in a Maters in Science Education • The best time to connect with new teachers and insure they know both content and pedagogy is before they leave UWM!
PLANS FOR FALL 05Induction • Work on best practice for induction • A series of 3 hour lectures/hands –on activities on specific topics and specific grade level. • Work with AMNH on evaluating on-line science courses • Work with assessment team to develop assessment plan
