  3. The French Revolutionwas a period of political changes that occurred in France from 1789 to 1815.

  4. Before the French Revolution, the people of France were divided into threeestates based on their social class.

  5. The clergy made up the First Estate and the nobles made up the Second Estatein France. Nobles (Second Estate) Clergy (First Estate)

  6. The First and Second Estates did not have to pay taxes and enjoyed special rights.

  8. About 98% of France’s population belonged to the Third Estate; they paid all of the taxes and lacked rights.
