What is Hands on Data? • Hands on data is an open-ended practical approach for structure and organisation of information within software and applications. • Some classifications of hands on data are text, images, audio, video, applications and games.
What is a Database? • A database is a form of storage system for a collection of data for multiple users. • They are designed as an organisational mechanism for storing, managing and retrieving data. • Databases can be classified into many types depending on the content of the data.
Why use a Database? • Organisation • Structure • Space • Storage • Technology advancements • Privacy Protection • Movement • Variety • Text • Images • Music • Videos • Games
Database Applications • There are many types of software that can be used as a database to store and manipulate data, • Sometimes the user may not even see the link to databases some examples include: • Microsoft Excel • Microsoft Access • Facebook • iWeb • iTunes • iPhoto
iTunes iTunes is a media player application based around the use and organisation of digital media such as music and video files.
iWeb iWeb is a web publishing program. Using a well designed graphical user interface, templates and design features.
iPhoto iPhoto is an application made by Apple Inc. exclusively for their Mac OS X operating system. iPhoto can import, organize, edit, print and share digital photos.
