  1. Retinal Implant The purpose of the Retinal Implant Project is to restore useful vision to patients who are blind with degenerative retinal diseases. The CNF-fabricated components of this system have been the flexible circuit on which the remaining components of our prosthesis are assembled, and the stimulating electrode arrays themselves. Si wafers serve as carriers for these freestanding films during processing. The electrode leads are fabricated inside of a ‘sandwich’ of polyimide or parylene-C, while the IrOx electrodes themselves are fabricated by reactive sputtering. Implant studies with these probes demonstrate continuing improvement in recognition capabilities as we improve our designs.
