Step 1 • The senator thinks of a new law • The senator is part of the Legislative Branch of Government • This means a law begins in the Legislative Branch
Step 2 • The senator shares the plan for the new law • This is called a bill
Step 3 • The bill goes to the Senate committee • The committee discusses the bill and makes changes
Step 4 • The senator shares the new bill with all the changes
Step 5 • People on the Senate committee debate or argue the bill
Step 6 • The Senate votes on the bill
Step 7:What happens here? If the bill fails………. If the bill passes…….. • The bill is DEAD • The bill goes to the House of Representatives • Steps 1-6 are done all over there
Step 8 • If the bill passes both houses (Senate and House of Representatives) it moves to the Executive Branch • The Governor is the leader of this branch
Step 9 • The Governor reads the bill and thinks about it
Step 10 If the Governor does not like the bill……… If the Governor likes the bill…… • The bill is vetoed • This means the bill is DEAD • The bill becomes a LAW
Step 11 The judicial Branch enforces the law
