  7. Save Energy: Low Operating Costs • Standard Efficiency Range (SE) • Energy Efficiency Ration (EER) up to 2.7 • Eurovent Class: D • European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ration (ESEER) up to 3.96 • High Efficiency Range (HE) • Energy Efficiency Ration (EER) up to 3.1 • Eurovent Class: A & B • European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ration (ESEER) up to 4.35 Johnson Controls

  8. Save Energy: Low Operating Costs - EER YLAE-SE to YLAE-HE: +7% EER YLAA-SE to YLAA-HE: +17% EER Johnson Controls

  9. Save Energy: Low Operating Costs – ESEER On Average, 10% better ESEER Johnson Controls

  10. Save Energy: Low Operating Costs – Approximate Energy Cost • AEC = (ACL * OH * Rate) / ESEER • ACL=Average Chiller Load (kW) • Use ESEER weighting: 0.03(100%)+0.33(75%)+0.41(50%)+0.23(25%) = 54% Average Load For YLAA0515HE Chiller: 521x 0.54 = 281 kW • OH=Operating Hours: Assume 5,000 hours per year • Rate=Utility Energy Charge (€/kWh): Assume average €0.10/kWh • ESEER=European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (kW/kW) For YLAA0515HE: ESEER=4.33 • AEC = (281 x 5,000 x 0.1) / 4.33 = 32,500 € Johnson Controls

  11. Save Energy: Low Operating Costs – AEC (continued) Average Savings: 1,300 € per year Average Savings: 650 € per year Johnson Controls

  12. Save Energy: Evaporator Pressure Drop • Pumping power used to overcome pressure drop through the evaporator has a cost that needs to be taken into account • Pumping Power [kW] = ΔP x Q / 103 / ηPUMP /ηMOTOR • Pumping Cost = Pumping Power x Operating Hours x Rate Where: • ΔP = Pressure Drop though Evaporator in kPa • Q = Flow Rate in L/s. ( Q = Cooling Capacity [kW] / 4.18 / 5) • ηPUMP = Efficiency of the pump. Considered 90% • ηMOTOR = Efficiency of the motor. Considered 80% • Operating Hours and Rate as for AEC model Johnson Controls

  13. Save Energy: Pumping Costs Johnson Controls

  14. Save Energy: Total Operating Costs Average Savings: 1,400 € per year Average Savings: 700 € per year Johnson Controls

  15. Save Energy: How do we achieve it? – Compressors & Evap. • Tandem or Trio Scroll Configuration • Same compressors as on YCWL • Proven configuration with High Efficiency • Replace ZP285 as used on YLAE by more efficient ZP295 • Use of shell and tubes evaporator increases cooling capacity compared to PHE for same compressors configuration Johnson Controls

  16. Save Energy: How do we achieve it? – Efficient Fans • YLAA is using more efficient fans than YLAE • Microchannel air side pressure drop is less than conventional condenser coils allowing higher air flow and lower fan power con-sumption than on YLAE • YLAE0510HE • 8 fans • 42 m3/s with fans at full speed • 1.8 kW / fan • YLAA0515HE • 8 fans • 52 m3/s with fans at full speed (+24 % more air) • 1.7kW / fan (-6 % fan power) Johnson Controls

  17. Neighbour Friendly: Low Sound Johnson Controls

  18. Neighbour Friendly: Low Sound Inside car travelling at 50 km/h with windows closed Normal conversation at 1 metre distance YLAA-HE-LS Sound Pressure at 10m. Johnson Controls

  19. Neighbour Friendly: LS models • As with YLAE, LS models include: • Single low speed fans • Compressor Acoustic Enclosure • LS model on average 8 dB(A) quieter than standard models Johnson Controls

  20. Compact Design – Footprint Johnson Controls

  21. Compact Design - Weight Johnson Controls

  22. Heat Recovery Heat Recovery PHE Johnson Controls

  23. Heat Recovery – (Cont’d) • Not only provides free heat but also increases cooling EER • Heat Recovery Exchanger converts the YLAA into a water-cooled chiller, therefore increasing efficiency. • Standard YLAA0515HE: • 35ºC ambient - LCWT 7ºC • EER = 3.05 • Heat Recovery YLAA0515HE: • 35ºC ambient - LCWT 7ºC – LHWT 45ºC • EER = 3.55 Johnson Controls

  24. Hydrokit Electrical Connectionboxes for trace heating: Pipework and componentsare trace heatedandinsulated Single or DualPump(s) VariousAvailable Pressure Flow RegulatingValve Flow Switch Suction Guidewith strainer Johnson Controls

  25. Microchannel Condenser Coils – Elements of design • Three basic components are used to construct microchannel coils: • Parallel Flow Aluminum Tubes • Enhanced Aluminum Fins • Header Manifolds • Combined by alternating tube and fin sections (layer of tube, layer of fin, layer of tube, etc). • Fins and tubes are captured at both ends by header manifolds. • Controlled Atmosphere Brazing (CAB) furnaces are used to manufacture all- aluminum microchannel coils (enriched with Nitrogen to minimize oxidation on the coil surface and promote clean, consistent braze joints). Header Parallel Flow Tube Enhanced Aluminum Fins Johnson Controls

  26. Microchannel Condenser Coils – Elements of design (Cont’d) De-Superheat Section Vapour Inlets 65% 35% Liquid outlet Sub-Cooling Section Johnson Controls

  27. Conventional copper tube/aluminum fin coils are predisposed to galvanic corrosion (2 dissimilar materials). Microchannel coils reduce the rate of galvanic corrosion by utilizing tube and fin material with similar properties (aluminum) and provide more than seven times greater corrosion resistance Microchannel Condenser Coils – Corrosion Resistance Conventional Coil – 1,000 Hrs Microchannel - 7,000 Hrs Johnson Controls

  28. Microchannel Condenser Coils – Serviceability • Structure is more rigid than conventional condenser coil designs since Microchannel Aluminum fins do not protrude past the edge of the tube (as is common in Cu tube / Al fin designs) • Microchannel coils can be cleaned with medium-pressure water (10 MPa). It is also safe to use traditional cleaning methods with microchannel coils. • Coil repair is accomplished by using a hand-held, light-weight, off the shelf MAPP gas torch as opposed to the typical oxy-acetylene torch. • All other interconnecting joints are standard copper to copper connections and current brazing practices apply. Johnson Controls

  29. Microchannel Condenser Coils – Additional Advantages • Leak potential of microchannel condenser coil is far less than tube/fin coil as there are no brazed return bends (only vertical header) • Significant Weight reduction on the overall Condenser Section. The coil dimensions are 1200 mm x 2050 mm and weighs approximately 30 kg per coil slab. • Air Side pressure is less than for equivalent conventional coil and therefore contributes to quieter sound level. • Technology benefits from the automotive industry experience. Car Radiators have endured a severe environment for 15 years or more. They are subjected to: Salt, Oil, Sand, Tar, Gravel, Chemical Road Treatments, Dirt, Insects, Moisture and Full Range of Ambient Temperatures.WHEN DID YOU LAST CHANGE YOUR CAR RADIATOR?
