Setting it up • First thing you do…Write your name (first and last) and subject on the front cover. You will need a journal for each of my classes that you are taking. • Open your journal to the first page.
Write “Table of Contents” across the top of this page. • Then write “Date” “Title” “Page # ” under the Table of Contents heading.
Should look like this Table of Contents Date Title Page # Now do this for 5 pages front and back……..(10 times)
On the next page, Right side of Journal • Take the Yellow Sticky Note or Tab and write “Bellringers” on it • Put it on the edge of this paper marking this section • Now number 7 pages (front and back). These pages are ONLY for bellringers.
Now, on the right side of your Journal • Take a yellow sticky note or Tab and write “Current Events”, this tab will go on this page. • Now starting from the number you left off from Bellringers, continue numbering 5 pages front and back.
Current Event Article Title Source and date(not google.com, more specific) Summary (5-8 sentences describing what the article was about) Response (5-8 sentences, Thoughts?)

Current Events • Classroom Calendar(do not depend on me for reminders) • Due every two weeks in journal • Classroom magazines (ex. Science News, Discover, Ocean Conservancy, biology.net, msnbc.com, newspapers, cnn.com) • Must be within one year • You will use ONE page for each current event
Next, on the right side of your journal • Take another Yellow Sticky Note or Tab and write “Assignments”. You will use this as a tab on this page for your assignments. • To start off number 5 pages front and back. You will continue numbering pages for this section as you use them.
Appendix • Found at the back of a book • Used as a resource, generally has charts, diagrams, lists • You will add material to your appendix working from back to front
To get full credit • Journals, collected 4 times this semester • You will receive a check sheet the week your journals are due, use it to check your journal before turning it in. (worth approx 70 -200 pts) • Journals need to be neat and organized, if they are hard to read or navigate points will be deducted. • Late journals will be deducted 10% each day late, after 7 days you will receive a zero. *
