  2. The Mission … to generate and distribute resources to the Klein ISD, to enrich, maintain, and expand programs needed to meet the district’s stated mission of excellence in education.

  3. KEF History • Established in 2000 • Began awarding grants in 2001 • 326 grants • $1,441,847 in grants • $400,000 in professional development • Funding for STEAM Express • Website: thekef.org

  4. Grant Awards • Individual teachers ($2,000 max) • Campus/Department ($7,500 max) • Multi-Campus ($15,000 max)

  5. Grant Awards Grants Open to Principals • Funding for Campus-wide Student Programs • Grants: ($25,000 max)

  6. Innovation Making meaningful change to improve programs, services, and processes and create new value for students and stakeholders. Innovation involves the adoption of an idea, process, technology, or product that is either new or new to its proposed application. Baldrige National Quality Program Education Criteria

  7. Grant Criteria • Support specific classroom, department, campus or school needs • Impact the quality of education for students • Relate to goals stated in the campus/district plan of action • Have the potential for replication on other campuses

  8. Generally, funds will not be awarded for: • - Salaries and fees for speakers • - Snacks or refreshments • - Awards and trophies • - T-Shirts • - Airfare, hotel, food, transportation or • other travel costs • Funds will not be awarded for multiple applications from an individual school • to fund an entire program.   9. Grant Process • Grants issued once a semester - 2 cycles per year • Applications issued in September for fall semester and January for spring semester • Fall deadline: November 1 Spring deadline: April 3 • Evaluation of grants occurs in November and April

Technology Questions? • General: • All new technology purchases must go through the hardware approval process. • All software purchases must go through the software approval process. • Bluetooth devices are not approved. • All printers must be managed by Dahill and approved by IT before purchase.

  11. TechnologyHardware: • On Kleinet, go to Forms, then Technology Request Application Form. Complete the required information and note it is for KEF Grant consideration. Once approved, attached the affirmation to your grant.

  12. TechnologySoftware: • Place a Help Desk Request through Eduphoria for your proposed software. • If software is already approved, print the affirmation email and attach to grant application. • If the software is not already on the approved list, you will be directed to follow the software review process. • Once your software request has been approved,print the affirmation email and attach to the application.

  14. Technology Deadlines: • All requests for software and hardware reviews should be submitted by: September 26, 2016 (fall) February 17, 2017 (spring) • This is necessary to meet grant application deadline (reviews can take up to 45 days). • Consider submitting concept for approval before writing grant.

  15. Facilities If your application includes any minor building/campus modifications you must get prior written approval from the Associate Superintendent of Facility and School Services and attachto grant application.

  17. Part A - Grant Description Please give the readers a brief synopsis of your grant, including the students impacted.

  18. Part B - Purpose • 75 words maximum • What is the instructional purpose, goals and needs for your classroom/campus?

  19. Part C - Enrichment/Support • 75 words maximum • Tie to Campus Improvement Plan • Innovative? • Replicable? • Resources needed?

  20. Part D - Curriculum/Activities • 150 words maximum • What measurable student goals does your project address? • How will the student learning goals be be implemented, assessed & measured? • Specific student activities & procedures? • How will the student learn?

  21. Part E - Evaluation • 150 words maximum • What measurements will be used to • determine if goals have been met • and what students have learned? • How will results of student learning be presented?

  22. Part F - Collaboration • 75 words maximum • Will collaboration be utilized? (other schools, teachers, PTO, community, etc.) • Do you have outside funding or support? • Is project sustainable (not a requirement)?

  23. Principal Review Form • Principal must review and sign. • Submit completed form with grant application.

  25. Grant Budget • Klein ISD is the KEF fiscal agent for grants. • Grant recipients must follow district purchasing/ bid guidelines. Approved vendors must be used. • Can this item be serviced by Klein ISD? • Get written quotes, orders might not be placed for several months. • Be sure to include shipping/handling costs. • Be sure there is no state sales tax added. • Round up your grant total to even hundreds.
