What is Cooperative national project of digitisation ? • not an all-inclusive and closed digitisation project the primary goal of which is to produce specific digital contents • framework for encouraging and developing a greater number of individual and adapted projects and activities on the digitisation of cultural heritage INFuture2007: “Digital Information and Heritage” Zagreb, 8 November 2007

Objectives (1) • The complete digitisation of material in the long term leads to the creation of recognizable and relevant contents and “cultural space” in the electronic environment. • Services based on these contents are readily accessible to all interested parties while selected contents could be accessed in accordance with usability rules through networking. • Produced digital contents are adapted, adequately formed and processed according to adopted norms and good practices which enable their inclusion in European, regional and other cultural contents and services networks. Objectives (2) • Digital collections are comprehensive and usable in the forming and supply of educational, tourist and other similar service contents. • Digital collections are part of the organised management system which offers sufficient guarantees for their permanent preservation and availability. • Institutions whose resources are not sufficiently developed shall not be deprived of the possibility to digitise their materials. Chronology (1): • Initiative of the Ministry of Culture, National and University Library and Croatian Library Council (2005) • Working group of 13 representatives from archive, library and museum communities developed “The national programme of digitisation of archival, library and museum holdings” (2005-2006) • Agreement on co-operation on the implementation of National Project “Croatian Cultural Heritage” (Ministry of Culture, National and University Library in Zagreb, Croatian State Archives and Museum Documentation Centre): 03-2006

Chronology (2): • Council and Office of the National Project of Digitisation: 03-2007 • Working groups for drawing up of standards and guidelines for: - WG1 Selection criteria and preparation for digitisation - WG2 Digitisation procedures - WG3 File formats (for preservation and access) - WG4 Digital collections development - WG5 Quality control of digitisation procedures

  14. Chronology (3): • Questionnaire on existing digital collections and on-going projects : 07 - 2007 • Call for open tender for the digitisation projects : 15.07.-15.09.2007. (58 projects applied) • Department for digitisation of library, archival and museum holdings (within the Ministry of Culture) • Start of “Croatian Cultural Heritage” portal development. 09-2007 • Development of Data model (adopted and adapted Michael-EU data model) 10-2007.
