  2. Essential Question: • How Do We Help 1500 Individual Schools Transition from Regional Mentoring to EFFECTIVE School Based Mentoring?

  3. Lead Instructional Mentor (LIM) Provides one key strategy to build the internal capacity of schools to nurture their new teachers.

  4. The LIM… • Provides guidance & support to the principal in developing an effective school based mentoring plan • Schedules regular on-going visits with school based mentor to train, coach, model, view and share effective mentoring language, protocols and strategies

  5. Primary Role of the LIM • Support and work with SCHOOL-BASED MENTORS in network schools • Do not work with new teachers; instead, mentor “mentors”

  6. LIMs Provide Guidance for Schools • Mentoring plans • Tools for School Based Mentoring • The work of School Based Mentors • Training for School Based Mentors • Identification of New Teachers • Tracking of Mentoring Experience

  7. LIM Qualifications & Training • LIMs are experts in new teacher growth & development, mentoring best practices, and the Professional Teaching Standards. • Most LIMs worked for the last 2-3 years as full time mentors for new teachers. • LIMs have been trained in the Santa Cruz mentoring model. • LIMS will continue to receive on-going training & support in their new role from the Office of New Teacher Induction.

  9. Typical LIM 2-Week Work CycleExpectation:LIMs visit each school minimum once every 2 weeks * Schools # 5 & 6 have no new teachers

  10. Typical LIM School Visit ActivitiesExpectation:LIMs schedule prior appointments with SBMs to maximize site visit time

  11. Hidden Talents of LIMs • Trained & Experienced in use of Professional Teaching Standards • Trained & Experienced in guiding teacher growth & development • Trained & Experienced in best practices for adult learning
