Plans of CSCTF report at CMS Run Coordination Workshop 2-4 Nov. 2011 By Anna Kropivnitskaya Purposes of the CMS Run Coordination Workshop 2-4 Nov. 2011: - review the experience from the 2011 operations for the proton running - to present plans for operations in 2012 CSCTF working meeting, 17 October 2011

CSCTF review at 2011 CSCTF improvements introduced before 2011 data taking: - new CSCTF logic: - improve pt resolution curves and efficiency (show efficiency curves) - by tight eta window during track reconstruction - using CLCT pattern information - using DT phiBend information in overlap DT-CSC region - move triggering from |η| > 1. to |η| > 0.9 - take in to account 3 link readout system in ME1/1a station efficiency change form ~30% to ~80% for high pt muons - new ghost cancelation logic which improve efficiency for cowboys muons and significant suppress rate in |η|> 1.8 region: we switched from cancelling ghosts in an eta-phi box to checking if they share a segment

CSCTF review at 2011 CSCTF bugs fixed during 2011 data taking: - 29.03.2011: Asymmetry at high |η|> 2.1 region between endcap + and endcap – was found and fixed: Wrong eta offset introduced at LUTs for 2011 data for endcap -. - CSCTF CELL is hanged and CSCTF couldn’t configure once per 3-4 weeks. Error is monitoring now and debugging. - For the 2011 year CSCT cause only 5 errors during Stable Beam. CSCTF changing during 2011 data taking: - 10.05.2011 changing of the PTLUTs: possibility triggering in the region where ME1/1a chambers are dead CSCTF performance in 2011: - stable hardware: SP boards didn’t broke during last few years - stable firmware: we lost firmware only during switch off/on CSCTF crate because of some EEPROMs on our boards are defective. Last time 12.07.2011 due to power cut at Point 5 - almost 100% agreement between hardware and emulator: - hardware<->emulator disagreement less then 0.15% - tests in 904 have shown that the mismatch is on the output of Sector Receiver LUTs. Requires additional debugging.

CSCTF Plans for 2012 Plans for CSCTF improvements in 2012: - New Extra zero suppression data format should be tested and used: - Now CSCTF DDU couldn’t handle with 105 kHz L1 rate - New data format should handle with such and higher rate - Pt assignment will be review to improve CSCTF resolution and suppress rate (here I need slide from Bobby) - MPC possible upgrade or at list study of MPC inefficiency (here I need slides from Justin) - Halo rate as a monitoring tool of back ground (beam gas…) (here I need slides from Darin) - rate study of the CSCTF with tight and loose (now at Point 5) quality definition (slide from me) Other upgrade thing to be mentioned at Workshop… Your proposals are welcome! Extra things to be mentioned??? : - L2 inefficiency for ghost cancelation logic for cowboys event. Should be fixed! Could cause significant problem at dimuon triggers for high pt Z. - GMT pt assignment change during September technical stop and should be review for 2012 - 25 ns rate is fine, pile up is not done yet <- should be reported by trigger group I think

  8. Threshold efficiency for CSCTF Pt assignment ME1/1 view (from CMS IN-2007/024) Plans for improvement in PT assignment during xmas technical stop: 1. Improve PT assignment in all eta regions using data selected during 2010 2. Try to improve PT assignment in high eta region: - take in to account 3 link readout system in ME1/1a station to get 90% efficient like in other eta regions - this method will be applied only in case if we manage not increase rate significantly for this region with contribution of low PT tracks ME1/1a Same readout channel

Ghost Cancellation News New Ghost Cancelation logic we switched from cancelling ghosts in an eta-phi box to checking if they share a segment: The ghost cancellation logic compares track segment numbers of each candidate with all other available candidates. Candidates that share at least one segment are considered to be ghosts, and in such case the track with lower rank is removed. Cut Dimuon Rate by 86% Overall -> ghost problem at high eta is solved -> we didn’t lose in efficiency of dimoun trigger with new logic

  10. Test new ghost cancellation logic with J/Psi New ghost cancellation logic (red) almost didn’t reduce efficiency of J/Psi

  11. Emulator Status: Online DQM (run 178099) hardware<->emulator disagreement less then 0.15% - tests in 904 have shown that the mismatch is on the output of Sector Receiver LUTs. Requires additional debugging.  very good shape

CSCTF Quality definition Quality definition till May, 10 2011:  Overlap DT-CSC region:  mode 11, 12, 14 -> Quality 3  for |eta| <1.2 any other modes -> Quality 1  CSC region |eta| > 1.2:  mode 2, 3, 4 -> Quality 3  mode 6, 7, 13 -> Quality 2  mode 1, 5, 8, 9, 10, 15 -> Quality 1Quality definition after May, 10 2011:   Overlap DT-CSC stay the same without changes   CSC region |eta|> 1.2 changes:   mode 5 -> Quality 3   for |eta|: 1.6-1.8 mode 8, 9, 10 -> Quality 2
