What causes teenage pregnancies? • Education • Drugs and alcohol • Culture • Lack of contraception • Age discrepancy in relationships • Sexual abuse • Media
Medical risks of teenage pregnancy • Premature and low birth weight • Mothers between 15-19 more likely to develop anemia • Teenage mothers less likely to recieve prenatal care resulting in mistreatment of child • Nutritional deficiencies
Psychosocial risks • Poverty • Education for mother (drop out of school) • Unemolyment • Social services • Family problems
Prevention • Sex Education • Contraception • Family upbringing • Religion • Media (commercials) • Awareness of the effects of drugs and alcohol • Reduce benefits
