Battle Creek Mission Statement To prepare our young men and women for academic success in middle school, high school and beyond.
What’s unique about BCMS? • Students are organized into female or male academic academies. • English, math, social studies, science and all elective classes are taught single sex. • Teachers use strategies for teaching boys and girls differently and continue to use the latest research when developing lesson plans and classroom activities. • We utilize a daily middle school advisory program in addition to our six class period day and feature a monthly core value to focus on.

Strong CommunitiesStrong Leaders Program Objectives • To help middle school students to develop & expand positive leadership and life skills • To enhance student achievement • To build strategies to create a productive future • To foster relationships between students and the community
Strong CommunitiesStrong Leaders Student Learn to: • Enhance problem solving & team building skills • Value students' strengths • Build students' self-esteem and confidence to believe they can become leaders in their own community • Create individual vision and roadmaps for their future • Interact successfully with members of the community
Strong CommunitiesStrong Leaders Program Format for Professional & Community Leaders: • Meet monthly for two-hour sessions from September 2012 - May 2013 on Thursday mornings • Facilitate core-value discussion and activities with 7 - 9 middle school students • Foster relationships with students and their community • Leaders will not necessarily be separated by gender
Pathways • Focus Beyond • Students who are currently enrolled in WEB and AVID • Specific focus on college readiness & leadership roles • 2 mentors/group facilitating problem solving as a leader using core values • Sharing career & job experiences and skills
Pathways • Focus Within • General student population. • Specific focus on community building and problem solving using life skills • 2 mentors/group facilitating core value discussion • Sharing community & life experiences • Role modeling what productive citizens look like
