  4. When adding suffixes to any word, use the three prong test: • Does the stem end with a final silent e? • Drop e and add suffix • Does it end with one vowel + one consonant? • This will be our focus this week! • Does it end with y?

  5. Focus for the week: one vowel + one consonant • Rule: Double the last consonant when adding a vowel suffix to words ending in one vowel followed by one consonant, only if the syllable before the suffix is accented • What are the vowel suffixes?
