  2. Solar Energy is created when sunlight hits a solar panel and is converted into electricity • When sunlight hits solar cells, energy is absorbed, which knocks electrons loose and forms a current • The only cost of this source of energy is the installation of the solar cells • No polution

Solar Roof Tiles • These are solar panels designed to look like standard roof shingles • Easy to install • Durable (Can be stepped on, dropped, stacked, etc.) • One estimate shows that the average cost of installation is about $11,000 • There is no electrical bill, and there are tax incentives, so you get a return on your investment. • Increases property value

  4. Commercial Use • In 2005, FedEx installed a solar power plant on the roof at their Oakland hub • Several other companies, such as Johnson and Johnson, and Whole Foods use onsite solar energy.
