Look for the efficacy of the light source to maximize efficiency. Lumens per watt can be compared to miles per gallon.

The future of LEDs and beyond… • Theoretically, the lumen per watt maximum is over 200 lumens per watt. • Currently, LED products are getting close to 100 lumens per watt. • We are not even half way to the finish Blue LEDs are coated with yellow phosphor to make white light More phosphor may improve color rendering, but reduce light output
Color rendering- Be careful with that comparison Phosphor research and improvements are now yielding LED products with CRIs over 90
We are getting better at dimming LED sources • Edison base sockets come from Thomas Edison- dies in 1931 • We are using old foundations to build new products • New products will change CCT using amber chip to mimic incandescent • Dim from your I-Pad, I-Phone, (Soon to be released) • LEDs can be turned on and off with little damage to the LED. Fluorescent does not tolerate cycling well. • LED drivers are now commonly 0-10v dimmable, which will make new LED fixtures more controllable. • You could have sensors that control when the fixtures are on, how bright they are, turn off immediately when someone leaves the room • You could have exactly the right amount of light. No waste.

Someday, maybe we’ll feel safer because the lights are NOT on • Sensors will become even more prevalent • Integrated with computers and LEDs- addressable
Conclusion • LEDs are getting to be more efficient • Phosphors in LEDs are yielding better color and better color rendering • LED lighting is becoming very controllable • Occupancy sensing, dimming, scheduling, load shedding • There will be even more controls. • Questions?
