Carbon Footprint Reduction By Briana Genovesi
What is a carbon footprint? • It’s the measure of a person’s contribution to global warming • Pretty much every human action from watching TV to buying food has a carbon cost • Watching a plasma TV for 3 hours emits 250 kilograms of carbon each year • Consuming electricity is one of the main factors of a carbon footprint
How much carbon do we emit? • Green house gases has risen rapidly in the past 2 centuries so far • It’s levels today are higher then in the last six hundred and fifty thousands years • In 1995 each person was responsible for 1 ton of carbon emissions • Even if all carbon emissions are stopped the earth would still be warmed for a century
What I can do to reduce my carbon footprint • Turning down my heater in the winter and using the fan more in the summer • Buying more carbon friendly food products • Walking or biking to more places instead of driving • Recycle more of our products • Unplugging electronics that are not in use • Use less hot water in the shower
What you can do to reduce your carbon footprint • Reuse products that can be used • Take shorter showers with less hot water • Limiting the amount of fossil fuels we use daily • Heat homes with gas or oil instead of heaters • Use longer lasting materials like light bulbs • Use cleaner sources of energy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7zwrzEyzkA
