Week 1 Intro to Analysis! We will discuss a narrative and how to analyze it, for example Mad Men.
Week 2 Beyonce is a Plagiarizer! Rhetoric!!! We will identify and develop rhetorical skills and analyze. We will also discuss plagiarism and its consequences.
Week 3 You will meet with me in my office to discuss your first draft Conferences! NO CLASS!!
And read examples of articles that have been published and discuss their attributes. Watch Glee! Week 4
Week 5 We will discuss grammar and continue work shopping. Analysis, Grammar, and the Finishing Touches Major Assignment #1 Due!
Week 6 Introduction to Research We will begin to understand research: what it is and how we should do it. For this unit, we will be reading Bruce Ballenger's The Curious Researcher. Each of you will be expected to present a chapter of this book (with a group)
We will be conducting conferences for the first draft of Major Assignment #2: Researched Article. Conferences! Week 7
Week 8 Research and Politics We will be continuing our exploration of research and focusing this research on politics, examining how they affect our culture.
Research and Bodies Week 9 We will continue to research and will focus on themes that plague our culture (such as the effects of body image).
Week 10 Research and MLA! We will be learning how to cite information correctly using MLA format.
Week 11 Final Touches We will finish our unit on research and work on the finishing touches of Major Assignment #2.
Week 12 we will become familiar with your third major assignment: a composition in three genres. Read “A Good Man is Hard to Find.” Introductionto Genre
We will be conducting an "online" workshop; instead of printing your peers' drafts, you will simply upload your commented draft into Blackboard. Happy Thanksgiving! Week 13 Fall Holiday - No Classes!!
Presentations Begin! Week 14 We will begin presenting your composition-in-three-genres project and continue to work on your final paper: the rationale/reflection.
Continued presentations Week 15 We will continue presenting your composition-in-three-genres projects.
