Mexico Outreach The Mexico Outreach Program is based on the premise, that through collaborative efforts between UMC and the various components of the Mexican healthcare system, it is possible to provide enhanced continuity of care at a lower cost to the patient while being more efficient in the use of UMC resources.
IMPACT ON ARIZONA HOSPITALS • Injured and acutely ill people from Mexico rely heavily on the U.S. for medical attention. • These individuals are not eligible for financial assistance programs in Arizona. • Hospitalizations are often long and follow-up care is difficult to arrange.
ISSUES • Time lapse prior to receiving adequate medical attention. • Continuity of care. • Cultural and linguistic barriers. • Inefficient use of limited resources.
