Use Medicines Safely Prevent Mistakes in Surgery LABEL all medications, medication containers (e.g. syringes, Medication cups, basins), or other solutions on and off the sterile field Reduce harm from ANTICOAGULATION therapy RECORD and PASS ALONG correct information about a patient’s medicines: e.g. (a) What medicines the patient is currently taking. (b) Compare those to new medicines given to the patient. (c) Patient knows which medicine to take when at home (d) Patient aware of the importance of bringing up-to-date list of medicines for every office visit with a doctor Make sure that the correct surgery is done on the correct patient and at the correct place on the patient’s body, e.g. Conduct preoperative verification process with the patient, e.g. MARK the OPERATIVE SITE & conduct “TIME OUT” immediately before starting the procedure.
