What is CAIR? A secure internet-based immunization registry for California • Tracks patient immunization and TB testinformation • Reduces missed opportunities • Increases immunization coverage rates • Used by thousands of health care providersand other agencies in California
The CAIR system is currently made up of 10 regions within California. Coming 2015…..you will be able to search for patients throughout all of California!
Benefits of CAIR • Shows what shots are due (uses up-to-date national recommendations: AAP/ACIP) • Keeps patient shot and TB test information in one central location • Prints CA Immunization Record (Yellow Card) with current information • Tracks your vaccine inventory • Generates Reminder and Recallpostcards/lists
User Confidentiality • Use CAIR only for your assigned duties • Use CAIR only from work computers • Use CAIR only to find records of patients visiting your clinic/agency • Keep your CAIR password confidential • Log off from CAIR when you step away fromthe computer and at the end of your shift
User Confidentiality (continued) • Keep CAIR patient information confidential • Do not purposely enter false information • Keep updated on information posted on the CAIR login screen • Do not use your CAIR login from a past job (ask CAIR to transfer your account if you need CAIR at your new job) • Understand that CAIR tracks records you open
Disclosure Process All patients/parents must be given theCAIR Registry Notice (Disclosure form) before you enter their record into CAIR! • It tells the patient/parent about CAIR and their rights • It is an “opt out” process – the form does not need to be signed • Patient/parent must be given a copy if they want it • Understand your clinic’s disclosure process
Decline or Start Sharing/Information Request Form Use when the patient/parent: • Refuses to have their/their child’s informationshared through CAIR • Wants to know which clinics/agencies have viewed their/their child’s record in CAIR • Wants to review or correct their/their child’s information in CAIR • Put the original in patient chart and give a copy to the patient/parent
