Previous Update Asks • Increase number of boarding students (facilities permitting) and establish Day Care Center to amortize high fixed costs (e.g. rent) • Track progress per child and report on it each year • Fundraising efforts: Alternative sources of funding needed beyond Asha • Medium-long term: Look into the possibility of Government granted land to build owned facilities instead of high rent
Partner Updates - Students • Student strength and per student cost • 21 Students in the boarding program • Day care center established: Currently 12 students • Audited expenses per/student/year: 15% drop YOY • 2012-2013: INR 48691, 2013-2014: INR 41572 • Goal: 25 boarding students and 40 day care students • Buying a 15 seat van for next academic year with ~50% one time funds from Asha • Every child’s initial status and YOY improvements are being tracked • Report provided to Asha
Partner Updates - Fundraising • For FY2013-2014 (Apr 1 – Mar 31): • Non Asha donations: INR 6,00,748 (incl. scheduled Mar donation of INR 42,000) • Vs Asha 2013-2014 commitment of 16,75,030 • Asha funding ratio: 74% • Helped immensely by by INR 5,04,000 (INR 42,000 paid monthly) from Spandana educational trust • This is renewed through Oct 2014 • In addition, $1000 donor specific funding through Asha (will be used for vehicle purchase) • Will pursue other avenues of fundraising going forward
Partner Update – Land/Building • Rent is a huge portion of their budget • Goal: Get land and/or building allotted by the Government • From the partner: • As of 3 month ago , Govt of AP has issued a direction to superintendent of Erragadda mental hospital to identify a piece of land for the 100 year lease to Seva sadan • They referred this to Tashildar office who came back few weeks ago and said the potential lands that can be allocated are in court disputes and it would take longer for them to be able 'clear' them to be given out on lease • They in-turn suggested some old building that can be re-purposed • Superintendent has assigned a 2 person committee to do a feasibility analysis and identify potential building space • Positive response from the AP Governor’s office • Jan 1 meeting with all staff and children • Follow-up meeting by founder on 3/13
Partner Updates - Challenges • Expenses are a challenge • Building rent is expensive • Very high costs of teachers and staff commensurate with care required of special ed children • Need to continue growing local and foreign donors outside Asha • Raise funds over time for a building and pursue NGO land grant • This is a long process with multiple setbacks possible • Building fundraising will be easier with donors after the land is allotted • Day Care Center expansion and van purchase is part of the strategy for this • Continuity plan needs improvement
