  2. Do-Now: Write for 5 min. • How do the struggles that the men are facing in All Quiet on the Western Front relate to the modern day struggle of soldiers fighting the war on terror? Do you think soldiers should be glorified and praised nowadays? Do they deserve more or less praise than the soldiers from WWI?

  3. Lost Generation & Literature • Post-World War I 1920s literary movement • Many lost faith in humanity after WWI and felt “lost” in life • Literature reflected on loss of young, innocent lives during WWI • Writing portrayed feelings of hopelessness and aimlessness that soldiers felt after war

  4. Ernest Hemingway (1899-1962 ) • American writer who lead the way for Lost Generation writers during 1920s after serving in WWI

Lost Generation Beliefs • Soldiers distrusted their country’s politics and values after WWI • No longer believed that those who do good will be rewarded • Felt angry that good, young men died or returned home psychologically damaged • Sought to expose the truth about the unhappiness felt by many after WWI
