NAPAssess Objectives • Provide guidance and a step-by-step reference point for the major activities in the NAPA process as defined by LEG • synergy assessment • stakeholder engagement • project prioritization • project portfolio development • Record, store and access output from each of these activities (particularly useful as a platform for sharing project information with stakeholders and storing information from the stakeholder-driven activities ) • To conduct multi-criteria assessment in a straightforward way
Sudan NAPA Process • Kickoff meeting with Stakeholders • Ecological zones selected by stakeholders: • desert • semi-desert • woodland savanna (clay) • woodland savanna (sand) and • flood regions • Multidisciplinary team identified; steering committee, technical committee, four task force committees, zonal focal points and zonal committees
Particularly helpful in organizing/assessing stakeholder input for prioritizing adaptation options Sudan NAPA Process NAPAssess used to support & simplify each phase
Sudan Experience using NAPAssess The Sudan NAPA project was launched in July, 2004 and is making use of the NAPAssess model to assist in making the process of identifying adaptation practical actions as transparent and stakeholder-engaging as possible • Three-day workshop focusing on NAPAssess training, software distributed to the technical committees and task forces • NAPAssess currently being used to house all relevant Sudan NAPA information (in one single platform) as an organizational tool • More training at the zonal level is necessary and will be planned in the future stages of the Sudan NAPA process
