MMR Number of confirmed cases of measles in Wales from 1996-2009 28 January 2010 The doctor who first suggested a link between MMR vaccinations and autism acted unethically, the official medical regulator has found. Dr Andrew Wakefield's 1998 Lancet study caused vaccination rates to plummet, resulting in a rise in measles - but the findings were later discredited. The General Medical Council ruled he had acted "dishonestly and irresponsibly" in doing his research.
Mumps • Number of confirmed cases of mumps in Wales from 2007-2009: • 2005 – 3757 • 2006 – 229 • 2007 – 14 • 2008 – 80 • 2009 – 359 • (Health Protection Agency)

NHS reorganisation – strengthening immunisation services • The new HBs have a dedicated immunisation co-ordinator, lead nurse and lead doctor all working together to maximise the impact of existing vaccinations; • They need to adopt best practice and delivery mechanisms consistently in their areas; • All immunisers must be trained in accordance with minimum standards.
Herpes Zoster (Shingles) Following a review of the medical, epidemiological, and economic evidence, and vaccine safety and efficacy data, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has recommended shingles vaccine for people aged 70-79 years.
