    1. Do not Float Your Quotes! How to “blend” or embed quotes effectively in your writing

    2. Incorrect way of including quotes in your writing: “The University of North Carolina Research Institute reported in 1995 that 85% of the student population in secondary level education failed the state exam” (McKenzie 5). The dramatic decline in passing rates has caused an uproar within the education system across the nation. “Louis Satterfield of the Teacher’s Education in American Schools (TEAs) released a statement on October 2, 2011 about the plan of action for schools in North Carolina” (Goodwing).

    3. An effective way to use quotes is to “blend” or embed them into your sentences in the following ways…

    4. “A reduction of at least 70 million dollars in South Asia” is expected to help alleviate the problems caused by the crashing economy (Stevens 7).

    5. Jane Weaver, a student at Jones High School, suffered the effects of childhood obesity early on in her adolescence, but her teachers at school taught her to be “proud of her large body” and “curly hair,” and this lesson had allowed her to gain “control over [her] own confidence again” (Stevens 100).

    6. To study the eating habits of people around the world, Dr. Kennedy Albright discovered that his ancestor never ate fish when he visited “West Africa and learned of the poisonous, spiny fish that inhabit most of the coastal waters” (Willcoxen).

    7. According to the American Data Business Center, “CEO Mark Pollard held a press conference to answer all questions about the lack of security in hotels” (Butch 29).
