Hezekiah Prays for Guidance and Follows Isaiah’s Counsel ”He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.” – 2 Kings 18:4 What did Hezekiah do to stop the people from worshiping idols?

  2. How Was Hezekiah Blessed For His Righteousness?2 Kings 18:7 “And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.”

After the Assyrian army conquered many of the cities of Judah, where did Hezekiah turn for help?Isaiah 37:2, 15 “And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.” He sent messengers to isaiah to ask him for counsel concerning the Assyrian king, and asked him what they should do about them coming to attack.

And Hezekiah wept sore.” – Isaiah 38:3 When we ask Heavenly Father to heal us or a loved one, our prayer may be answered in several ways. We must be willing to accept Heavenly Father’s will.

If we are trying to live righteously, we will be watched over and blessed during this time. What did the Lord say will happen to the Saints when the wicked are burned?

What does Isaiah say about war between the nations of the earth?Isaiah 2:4 4 ”And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” Notation: In the millenium, the tools once used for war, will be used as farming tools. For there will be peace among all.

How will the wild animals behave? 6 “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” 7 “And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.” 8 “And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.” 9 “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” – Isaiah 11:6-9

Why do you think it will be a blessing to live in a world where everyone has been taught the gospel?Isaiah 11:9; 54:13–14What can we do to be worthy to live on the earth at this time? 9 “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” – Isaiah 11:9 13 ”And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” 14 “In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.” – Isaiah 54:13-14

  18. Only Heavenly Father knows when the Second Coming will occur and when the Millennium will begin. Nevertheless, we should be preparing for that time. The Millennium is a time to look forward to. Although there will be difficult times before the Second Coming, we will be blessed and helped through these times if we live righteously.

  19. Discuss several events of the last days. Explain that signs tell us of Jesus’ Second Coming, such as wickedness, war, turmoil, the Restoration of the gospel,the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, the gospel preached to all the world, the sealing power restored, the Lamanites becoming a mighty people, and the building of the New Jerusalem. Conclude the discussion by referring to Isaiah 54:10, 13–14, 17. Emphasize that those who are righteous will be blessed during these difficult times.

Have the children look up the following scripture references and decide what Isaiah prophesied and how it has come to pass • Isaiah 2:1–2 -- The kingdom of God to be established in the Rocky Mountains • Isaiah 7:14 – The birth of Jesus Christ • Isaiah 29:4 – The coming forth of the Book of Mormon • Isaiah 52:7–8 – Missionaries spreading the gospel • Isaiah 53:3–5 – The Atonement of Jesus Christ

  21. Lesson 36 ISAIAH The prophet Isaiah lived over 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Many of Isaiah’s teachings and prophecies have been quoted by other prophets in the Book of Mormon and the New Testament and by the Savior himself. Isaiah prophesied of many events that have already happened and many that will yet come to pass. When Jesus visited the Nephites after his Resurrection, he counseled them to study the words of Isaiah . 1 ”And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah.” – 3 Nephi 23:1
