31st European Symposium on Occultation Projects (ESOP-31)Pescara, Italy, late August, 2012 Report given 2012 October 19 IOTA meeting, Las Vegas, Nevada David W. Dunham
Highlights of the ESOP31 Meeting • Beautiful location on the Adriatic Coast east of Rome • I renewed acquaintances with European colleagues, and met new observers; interesting cultural program organized by Costantino Sigismondi • Most active IOTA section chasing TNO occultations • Plans of expeditions from France, Germany, and Spain to video record the November 13th total solar eclipse from the path edges, but • Decided to make one last effort for the 2017 August US total solar eclipse, then probably defer the solar diameter measurements to space-based observations • History of the HMNAO occultation machine • Wieth-Knudsen Award
Group on train to Lanciano, Costantino’s home town, a city over 3000 years old. Carles Schnabel is wearing a yellow shirt; he is the local coordinator for ESOP-32 next year near Barcelona
