ICT INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
ICT It is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning.
What is effective ICT • Engage & enthuse learner • Raise achievement • Enable better understanding • Foster improved communication • Have a positive impact on workload
Use of Radio • Radio/audio can be used in place of a teacher to deliver highly structured lessons with pauses for learners to respond, or as a supplement with a teacher present • RADIO TEXT :Radio is used with computer to transfer textual data
Avtar of Educational television • Open Telecast • Telecast with print support • Telecast with print and feedback • Group Telecasts • Edutainment
WHY EDUSAT? Shortage of trained teachers Lack of quality teaching, especially in the rural areas Teacher absenteeism Need for uniform quality education Need for improvement in Science, Maths and English teaching.
HOW IT STARTED EDUSAT launched by ISRO on 20th September 2004, exclusively for the education sector, as a collaborative project of MHRD, IGNOU and ISRO. Discussions were initiated by Government of Haryana with MHRD, IGNOU and ISRO in the month of May 2005 for setting up the Haryana EDUSAT network.
Three general approaches to the instructional use of computer & Internet • Learning about computers & Internet • Learning with computers & Internet • Learning through computers & Internet
Lecture • A special design of the auditorium can contribute to a lecture. Microphones, amplifiers, and other equipment can improve loudness and even acoustic quality of human speech. • Students can also use microphones while asking questions. • In the case of bigger audiences, the speaker’s face and figure can be captured by a video camera, magnified, and projected onto a screen.
CONTINUE • Speaker can combine pre recorded images with images made during lecture • Images of real objects obtained via camera can be downloaded to computer or directly connected to projector • Electronic digital lectures can be transmitted online to many places at once • Computer can record written and oral answers by all students on the time line • DURING DISSCUSSION major points are recorded and presented on screen to make it lively .
TEACHER STUDENT COMMUNICATION • Email has revitalized letter writing • While voice mail and answering machine sometimes help when wanting to say something that is hard to do face-to-face.
ELECTRONIC DIGITAL TEXT BOOKS • DVD can accommodate thousand of text pages • Digital video text books can provide link to other part of course • E BOOKS • E-JOURNALS
SCIENCE EXPERIMENT & OBSERVATION • Certain fundamental concepts of mathematics and science are given to visual realization using ICT • In a computer-run virtual laboratory, we can stage experiments that imitate real ones. A student or teacher can construct shapes, choosing, pointing, moving, indicating numerical parameters by sliding an indicator, or by direct input.
TEST & EXAMINATION • The procedure is quick and objective . • Results are stored automatically in the computer and are available via a network. • Problems can be chosen from item banks
ICT IN NATURAL SCIENCE • Spread sheet to tabulate calculate results • To see visual effect of manipulating variable • To draw charts • Composing documents &presentation
ICT IN MATHS • Students can use applets available on internet for performing mathematical problem • Can use modelling packaging like mathematacia • Suitable statistical software tools to eliminate hours of calculation
ICT IN SOCIAL SCIENCE • For presentation of topic using graphics • Use spreadsheet for listing dates, events, countries & person involved • Report making on Social & ethical issues via Internet
BASIC MUSIC COMPOSITION Children aged 7 and up, with no knowledge of formal musical notation, can learn how to create simple melodies in one or two years by operating a computer with an audio synthesizing and editing microworld used as a medium and tool for structuring and shaping the materialof sound. A microworld of this kind provides a choice of musical notes in the range of seven octaves and commands that set a desired pitch, volume, and duration to consecutive strings of sounds (and pauses).
Virtual Education VIRTUAL EDUCATION It is instruction in a learning environment where learner & teachers are separated by time & space and teacher provide course content through internet
INSTRUCTION MODE FOR VIRTUAL EDUCATION • VIRTUAL CLASSROOM • HYPERTEXT COURSE • AUDIO BASED COURSE • VIDEO BASED COURSE • ANIMATED COURSE • WEB SUPPORTED TEXTBOOKS • PEER TO PEER COURSE
TEACHER SHOULD KNOW • When, when not & how to use ICT in teaching their subject • How ICT can be used for teaching the whole class • How ICT can be used when planning • How to assess student’s work when ICT have been used • How ICT can be used to keep up-to-date, share best practice
ADVANTAGES OF ICT • FACILITATING LEARNING FOR CHILDREN OF DIFFERENT LEARNING STYLE &ABILITY • MAKING LEARNING EFECTIVE INVOLVING MORE SENSES IN MULTIMEDIA CONTEXT • PROVIDING A BROADER INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT FOR APPROACHING PROBLEMS AS WELL AS BEING MORE SENSITIVE RESPNSE TO LOCAL NEEDS
Factors against use of ICT • MAINTENANCE • NEED FOR TRAINING OF TEACHERS • ONE OFF TRAINING IS NOT SUFFICIENT • INEQUALITIES • INFORMATION OVERLOAD
