The Institute of Families for Child & Youth Mental Health (IF) is a central coordinating organization that acts as the catalyst to facilitate the connection of families tohealth care providers, policy makers, educators, researchers, service providers and business across Canada • The Institute of Families for Child & Youth Mental Health (IF) is a central coordinating organization that acts as the catalyst to facilitate the connection of families to health care providers, policy makers, educators, researchers, service providers and business across Canada

  3. Definition of Family • Families include children, youth, arents, grandparents, siblings, guardians, foster parents, adoptive parents and extended family caregivers

  4. Mission – To support child and youth mental health by creating and strengthening partnerships WITH families • Vision– Families are flourishing as a result of being seen and engaged as integral partners for child and youth mental health

  5. National “One Door Agency” • Giving youth and families a voice • Building partnerships • Promoting consultation • Sharing evidence & knowledge

  6. Meeting a Growing Need • There is no bigger health issue that affects children, youth and families in Canada. Almost every Canadian has or will be affected by mental illness, either directly or indirectly • No National central coordinating organization linking health providers, policy makers, educators and researchers with youth and families for child and youth mental health

Components of IF • Provide template and support for Provincial Family Council (s) • Support building awareness and uptake for National Child & Youth Mental Health Day and www.ncymhd.com • Secure “Family Smart”™ trademarkthat will help identify practices, programs and policies that meet the criteria identified by families as meeting outcomes that are meaningful and rewarding to them • Create library hub for leading practice, evidence-informed and“Family Smart™” programs, practices and policies across the continuum of child and youth mental • Develop a Parent University that provides parents with the needed information and skills required to enhance their child and youth’s mental health
