Nashua School District E-Portfolio & SharePoint
Nashua • 13,000+ students • 12 Elementary Schools • 3 Middle Schools + 1 alternative middle school • 2 large High Schools
What is SharePoint? • Microsoft SharePoint is a web-based collaboration tool and document management system from Microsoft. • Website • Portal • Basically a shared folder on the web
Why use SharePoint? • Document Storage: Store and organize relevant classroom documents and handouts for students to access and submit when they are outside of the classroom • Collaboration: collaborate with students electronically using 21st century tools like wikis and blogs. • E-Portfolio workflow and storage
SharePoint in Nashua • External facing sites at school level • High School Teacher Sites • Middle School Team Sites • Committee sites • E-Portfolio
E-Portfolio Cohort • Representatives from elementary and middle schools that test out the process before it is rolled out across district • Develop types of artifacts and rubrics
EPortfolio Process Workflow Begins Teacher Rejects Artifact: Workflow ends
Step 1 • Student creates an artifact in their classroom • They submit the artifact to their teacher’s SharePoint site with a short reflection
Step 2 • Once the artifact is submitted it initiates a workflow on the SharePoint Site • The teacher can elect to have an email notification of the artifact submission, or they can check the document library
Step 3 • The teacher approves or rejects the artifact with a short teacher reflection • If the artifact is rejected, the student can make changes and then resubmit
Step4 • Once approved, the student will send the artifact to the Documents Records Center • The student must complete the required fields for it to be sent successfully
Document Records Center • The document records center will store all of the student artifacts while they are in school. • Artifacts are read only once they are in the Records Center
