Why Does it Matter • How would you feel seeing animals getting physically abused all the time for no reason whatsoever? • How would you feel getting abused for no reason all the time? • Another reason why It matters is because if people get away with it then they are more tempted to do it again.
What are the laws In Illinois • Cruel treatment. No person or owner may beat, cruelly treat, torment, starve, overwork or otherwise abuse any animal. No owner may abandon any animal where it may become a public charge or may suffer injury, hunger or exposure. • Aggravated cruelty. No person may intentionally commit an act that causes a companion animal to suffer serious injury or death. • Animal torture. (a) A person commits animal torture when that person without legal justification knowingly or intentionally tortures an animal. For purposes of this Section, and subject to subsection (b), "torture" means infliction of or subjection to extreme physical pain, motivated by an intent to increase or prolong the pain, suffering, or agony of the animal.
What Can We Do To Stop This? • Make the government enforce the laws and make sure the people who do this get caught and do major time in jail. • Make people see how bad this really is and show them that it is a major problem in the United States because some people think it’s fine to hurt, abandon , mistreat, or starve animals.
