Discussion Questions • As a F.6 student, how can we promote responsible pet ownership? • Do you think the new amended lawpenalty is enough to palliate animal cruelty? • What would you consider when you decide to take an animal as a companion?
Discussion Questions • Would you say no to fur coats or reject all garments and fashion items with fur trims? Why and why not? • Recently, there is a drop in the number of people adopting stray dogs from the SPCA, can you suggest some means to encourage animal lovers to adopt the stray dogs especially mongrels from SPCA rather then buying a pedigreed dog from a pet store in order to ease the over crowding condition in the homing department?

Be one of the members of the SPCA, spread the message of responsible pet ownership to your family, friends and even neighbours.
Do you think the new amended lawpenalty is enough to palliate animal cruelty? The new amended law is the most significant change concerning animal welfare in many years. It is a powerful tool to combat animal cruelty and it serves as a deterrent in stopping people from causing unwarranted or unnecessary suffering or harm to animals. However……….. education is a noteworthy tool to alleviate the problem of animal cruelty.
What would you consider when you decide to take an animal as a companion? • Think carefully before getting a dog – it is a life-long commitment • Commitment • A dog can live for 15 or more years. If you get a dog, it is your responsibility for all that time. • Are you prepared to make this commitment? • Don't buy a cute puppy on impulse. Lots of puppies bought this way end up being surrendered or abandoned.
Affordability • Can you afford to keep a dog? • A dog can cost you a lot of money for food, veterinary care, etc. • Residence • Are you permitted to keep a dog in your residence? • Your neighbours may complain – especially if your dog barks or is aggressive. • Do all your family members like dogs? • Will you be able to live with a dog in your house? • Exercise • Dogs need daily exercise and have to go to the toilet! • Will you have enough time to look after your dog properly?
SAY NO TO FUR. Don’t wear anything which contains fur or fur trim. Let’s help to end the suffering of millions of animals. Despite claims of ‘humane’ farming by the fur industry, animals bred for fur are often confined to a life of cramped, filthy cages, only to have their lives cruelly cut short by a fur workerskinning them alive for their precious pelts.
If you are considering getting a dog as a companion, please adopt and consider a mongrel. • Though they are of mixed genetic heritage and do not have a distinct breed look……….. • In deed, they are less likely to suffer from hereditary diseases • Mongrels are generally tougher and more adapted to life in HK. Many pure breeds are just not suited to life here, like Huskies and Bulldogs
With many Mongrel animals available at the SPCA, why not take a chance and give one of those Mongrel a good home? At the same time, you can help ease the overcrowding condition in the Homing Department too. If you getting a dog as a companion, please do not hesitate to go to the homing department of the SPCA and select a MONGREL. Mongrel is a perfect choice.
A life-long commitment, • Not an instant impulsive decision. • Should consider carefully on the responsibilities. Like humans, animals also have valuable lives. A pet needs our love, care, time and patience. Humans have to treat a pet as a family member, not a toy
The End Thank you all for your participation!!!
