HHS, HHL and HHE Series Heatless Desiccant Compressed Air Dryers For pressure dew points to –100˚F (–73°C)
HHS, HHL & HHE Series Meeting global demand for: Energy Savings Quality & Reliability
HHS, HHL & HHE Series Meeting and Exceeding ISO 8573.1 Air Quality Classes
HHS, HHL & HHE Series • Two Advanced Design Platforms • 40-450 scfm Models with space savings features: • Integrated filtration within dryer footprint • Reduced height due to outlet / purge piping in back of vessels instead of on top
HHS, HHL & HHE Series • Two Advanced Design Platforms 590-5400 scfm Models feature rugged reliability: • Time tested design • No “midnight surprises” common in someheated desiccant dryer designs
HHS, HHL & HHE Series Basic Operation 1. Compressed air passes through a vessel filled with desiccant 2. Water vapor is attached to the surface of the desiccant by the process called adsorption 3. Dry air exits the dryer
HHS, HHL & HHE Series Desiccant Absorption Process • Water vapor molecules come in contact with surface and are adsorbed on to it. 2 1 Low H2O Magnification of a section showing pores DESICCANT BEAD AIR FLOW High H2O Heat is released as water is adsorbed-1250 BTU’s per pound of water. AIR FLOW Water vapor moves from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration. 4 3 Low H2O AIR FLOW The desiccant adsorbs water until the concentration of water vapor inside the pores equals that of the compressed air stream (saturated). Then, no more water vapor can be adsorbed until the desiccant is replaced or regenerated. AIR FLOW Water vapor builds up on surfaces, eventually becoming dense enough to change phase into a liquid. AIR FLOW 5 6 Vapor
HHS, HHL & HHE Series Heatless Desiccant Dryers Provide a continuous supply of compressed air at low dew points Operation: One tower is on-line drying the air while the other tower is off-line being regeneratedTowers alternate so that the air stream is always exposed to dry desiccant
HHS, HHL & HHE Series Method of Regeneration Pressure-Swing (Heatless) Regeneration Dried compressed air is expanded to near atmospheric pressure This low pressure, extremely dry air pulls water from the desiccant and carries it out of the dryer
HHS, HHL & HHE Series • Basic Operation 1. Fluctuating Demands • Large variations due to production scheduling or shift workloads 2. Reduced Demands • Peak demand reductions from air audit strategies being implemented 3. Peak Demands • Consistently operating at-or-near full capacity

HHS, HHL & HHE Series Two Advanced Design Platforms 1. Tower 2 goes off-line; sensor B1 takes reading 2. Tower 2 regenerates; sensor B1 takes another reading 3.Temperature difference is indirect measurement of load on the dryer 4. Microprocessor determines temperature rise that will occur when Tower 2 goes on-line and becomes fully loaded 5. Tower 2 goes on-line; sensor B2 monitors temperature 6. When the calculated temperature rise occurs, Tower 2 goes off-line for regeneration

HHS, HHL & HHE Series What is the Heat of Absorption? Heat released during adsorption of water vapor Sum of latent heat + heat of wetting Activated alumina releases 1250 Btu’s per lb. of H2O
HHS, HHL & HHE Series How is the Heat of Absorption Saved? Bed has sufficient desiccant volume to retain heat Tower goes off-line before thermal front reaches top of bed
HHS, HHL & HHE Series Why is Saving the Heat of Absorption Important? Maintains temperature of purge air during regeneration Maximizes efficiency Minimizes purge air usage If 10% of the Heat of Adsorption is lost, purge flow must be increased 50%
