  2. A Abstain- to not take part in some activity such as voting. Antifederalists- individuals who opposed ratifications of the constitution. Ambush- a surprise attack Arsenal- a storage place for weapons and ammunition.

  3. B Boycotts refuse to buy items from a particular country. Back Country- a region of hills and forests west of tide waters. Bounty- money given as a reward such as to encourage enlistments in the army. Burgesses- elected represenitive to an assembly.

  4. C Cabinet- a group of advisers to the president. Caravel- small fast ships with broad bow. Cash crop- farm crop raised to be sold for money. Canal- an artificial waterway.

  5. D Debtor- person or country that owes money. Decree- an order or decision given by one in authority. Demilitarize- to remove armed forces from an area. Deprecate- to fall in value.

  6. E Effigy- rag figure representing an unpopular individual. Emancipate- to free from slavery. Export- to sell goods aboard. Embargo- an order prohibited trade with another country.

  7. F Federalist- supports of the constitution. Freedman- a person freed from slavery. Fugitive- run away or trying to run away. Frigate- warships

  8. G Global Warming- a steady increase in average world temp Genocide- the deliberate destruction of a racial political or culture group. Guerrilla tactics-referring to surprise to attacks or raids rather than organized warfare. Greenback- piece of U.S paper money first issued by the north during the civil war.

  9. H Hieroglyphics- artificial form of writing using symbols and pictures to represent words. Habeas corpus-A legal order for an inquiry to determine whether a person has been lawful imprisoned. Holocaust- name given by the mass slaughter of gews and other groups by Natzi. Horizontal- integration combing of competing firms into one corporation.

Joint occupation- The possession and settling of an area shared by two or more countries. Judicial review- the right of the supreme court to determine if a law violates the constitution. Judicial Branch- branch of government including the federal court system that interprets the nations laws.

  12. K Kansas Nebraska- in 1854 the dispute over slavery erupted in congress again. Bleeding Kansas- with proslavery and antislavery forces in Kansas arming themselves the outbreak of violence became inevitable. Keelboat- Lewis and Clark send back groups with reports and specimens of some of the plants and animals that were unknown in east. Kearny steapen watts- Led his troops to California and new Mexico led about 1500 Calvary soldiers along the Santa fe trail.
