An African early warning system is developed by 2015 XX African countries have identified needs and prepared plan to develop capacities by 2012 Reduce the impacts of water- born diseases Example 2: regional targets Reduce post harvest food losses Improve capacities to prepare good quality projects in cities Improve hygiene and health All African schools benefit from Watsan by 2018 Improve access to basic services for all Reduce impacts of food crisis Africa: Increase the yields of smallholder farmers Improve transboundary water management Make water a political priority Develop infrastructure for storage & irrigation Further develop the strength and role of AMCOW Develop good quality projects Develop dialogues on water and dams in 5 sub-regions by 2012

Feedback on Regional process questionnaire (2/2) • Building a participatory Regional process • Facilitate participation from early on • Communicate early on the process • Rely on regional institutions • Rely on professional organisations, networks (NGO networks…) • Seek regional political support • Capitalise on existing initiatives (basin committees, water charters) • Ask countries to organise it for the next 8 months, through Internet • Interaction with Political and Thematic processes • Organise cross-process coordination meetings (e.g. mid-2011) • Start quickly, provide quickly inputs to WWC / WWF • Have regional process first to feed thematic and political processes • Have UN onboard • Propose clear and realistic solutions
